Shoresh Hebrew High School Moves to the JCCGW 

Fairfax Open House LGBT Jewish Youth Support Group

Open House is a monthly moderated support group for LGBT Jewish teens age 13-18 and their allies. We meet monthly the second monday of the month from 7-9 pm at the JCCNV in the Youth Lounge and a Dairy/Pareve meal is served

Marnina Cowan

Kesem currently rehearses during the school year on Wednesday nights from 6 - 7:30 pm at B'nai Israel Congregation in Rockville.  The troupes is under the direction of Marnina Cowan.  The troupes preforms several times during the year in the Washington, DC area for Hebrew Schools, Synagogue events, Community wide Israel Festivals and other Jewish Community programs.

Yesodot is under the direction of Pepe Strauss and Mike Fox.  Yesodot preforms about 10 times a year in the Washington DC area for Hebrew Schools, Synagogue events, Community wide Israel Festivals and for the Hebrew Home of Greater Washington.  We also try to travel outside the DC area at least once per school year - including the New York Israeli Folk Dance Festival and to Hora Aviv - an Israeli Dance workshop "camp" outside Philadelphia.  In the past, Yesodot has also preformed at Israeli Dance festivals in Boston and in Mexico City!

Shoresh Hebrew High School at Ohr Kodesh Congregation in Chevy Chase, Maryland, is a unique Jewish studies program for 7th - 12th grade students who attend secular schools in the Washington area.  Shoresh offers teenagers from diverse backgrounds a text-based course of Jewish study.  Outstanding teachers are the keystones of Shoresh's success.  Shoresh teachers represent the range of Jewish practice and experience in the Washington Jewish community.

    

Israeli Dancing for Beginners

Ohr Kodesh Congregation, Chevy Chase,  Maryland

Tuesdays, May 3 - June 21 (except June 7);  7:00 - 7:45 pm  Students are encouraged to stay and dance as late as they want; the group usually breaks up aroung 10 pm.

You will learn the basic steps of Israeli Dancing and start building a repertoire of dances which will be reinforced every Tuesday.  the seven week course costs $50 for adults/$40 for students and Ohr Kodesh members.  This course includes a music CD of the dances that we were taught.  If you cannot make it each week, you can pay on a weekly basis - $8 for adults/$6 for students and Ohr Kodesh members
