What We Do
CE21: Congregational Education for the 21st Century is changing the model of congregational education from schooling, to one that engages congregants in innovative, compelling and meaningful learning opportunities. This pilot program was launched in six congregations in 2008 throughout the Greater Washington area.
Enhancing and Expanding Adult Jewish Learning by working with our partner agencies to increase the quality and impact of adult education offerings; creating vibrant new curricula that will engage adults of all ages and levels of affiliation; and identifying talented educators, mentoring them and offering them significant professional development opportunities.
Improving Philanthropy Education and Service-Learning by building on our extremely successful youth philanthropy institutes and service learning camps. Our goal is to train professionals in our community to create engaging opportunities for all ages to learn and experience the core Jewish values of Tzedakah (giving), Tikkun Olam (repairing the world), and G’milut Hasadim (acts of loving-kindness).
Engaging Families with Young Jewish Children in order to prepare for the advent of free, universal pre-kindergarten. This initiative, which could take place in the next five years in Maryland, could mean that an estimated 90% of families of young children may not utilize a Jewish preschool. We are working to identify and create new opportunities to engage these families and keep them connected.
Creating Welcoming Learning Environments for Interfaith Families by minimizing the barriers that “turn off” these families and by maximizing opportunities for them to connect with Jewish communal organizations.
Providing opportunities for professional development to educators throughout Greater Washington is one of the Partnership’s central strategies for transforming and enriching our community. Jewish educators are the linchpins of our Jewish education system. Only with well-trained, knowledgeable, inspired and inspiring educators teaching our adults, children and families will our heritage and values be transmitted successfully generation after generation.
