Programs for Children and Teens

The Greater Washington community is full of amazing learning opportunities and experiences for our children and teens. Search for a preschool, congregational school, youth group, summer camp or other special program by area, age, time, denomination and more on the Partnership for Jewish Life and Learning’s Concierge right here! Jewish Culture Clubs provide teens with opportunities for involvement in the Jewish community through their high school.  Jewish Culture Clubs are established "for teens, by teens;" they meet during or after school hours (usually weekly or monthly) on campus and are open to all students.  The structure of each Club is created by teen leaders, who assess the interests and needs of their participants.  The Jewish content of Club activities focuses primarily on Jewish holidays, Jewish popular culture, Israel, Jewish history, rituals, understanding contemporary Judaism, and socializing with other Jewish teens.  Each Club has at least one teacher sponsor, and is supported by the national organization, Jewish Student Union.   School Main...
 
NFTY-MAR, the North American Federation of Temple Youth’s Mid Atlantic Region brings together Reform Jewish Teens from across the mid Atlantic, including North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Washington DC, and Delaware.  NVHC describes itself as a community of learners who strive to make connections with their Jewish identity and struggle to ensure that their children have strong and positive Jewish experiences both socially and educationally. NVHC will meet beginning in September 2011 on Sundays from 9:15 a.m.-12:15 p.m. for K-6th grade, Tuesdays 6:30-8:00 p.m. for 7-12th grade and a one hour choice for Hebrew for 3-6th either Tuesday or Wednesday. Ohr Kodesh offers a varying program depending on age. Classes are from 9:15 a.m.-12:00 p.m. with Early Drop Off at 7:30 a.m., Enrichment for 3s and 4s from 1:15 p.m.-2:30 p.m. and After Care until 6:00 p.m. Monday-Thursday, closing early on Fridays. A Summer porgram is available. Operation Understanding DC's mission is to build a generation of African American and Jewish community leaders who promote respect, understanding and cooperation while working to eradicate racism, anti-Semitism and all forms of discrimination. They do this through a year-long program for high school juniors, which includes a three week summer journey to cities and towns in the U.S. of significance to the Jewish and African. American communities; and public speaking and mediation training for participants, which enables them to effectively share their experience. Applications to participate are due mid-fall each year. Oseh Shalom Religious School offers varying programs for K-12th Grade.  The main program is on Sunday morning from 9:30 a.m-11:30 a.m. and offers weekly classes for Kindergarten - 7th grade.  Pre-School meets every other week on Sunday mornings.  3rd-7th grade have a special weekday program on Wednesdays from 4:30-6:30 p.m.  The Upper School 8th-12th grade meets on Tuesdays from 6:45 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. beginning with dinner.
